Jewish Housing Council Foundation
What better gift than to care for those who came for us….
As Jews, our roots lie deep in history…in Torah…in the teachings of our sages…in the sorrow and joy of our people from generation to generation. Our Jewish community also is rooted in time…in the daily efforts of dedicated people…and in the financial resources contributed by generous men and women who want to:
- Provide access to a Jewish way of life for those who choose it.
- Provide funding for aging in place and related support services.
- Provide support to families in the community dealing with elder issues
- Educate and sensitize the public to issues of aging and the needs of the senior population.
Founded in 2004 as a nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization, The Jewish Housing Council Foundation's mission is to maximize private support for the Jewish Housing Council and other not-for-profit organizations supporting the Jewish elderly in Sarasota and Manatee counties. This aids the Housing Council in fulfilling its own mission of operating and maintaining facilities and services for the elderly of the Jewish community who desire a supportive environment that provides for their residential, social, health, safety and religious needs.
Contributions from donors like you are essential!
JHC relies on contributions from friends in the community to deliver quality care to all residents, to purchase equipment and to plan effectively for the future.
Every day the Jewish Housing Council cares for seniors in countless ways. Each is someone's mother, father, sibling or spouse. Your support touches whole families.
Reason for Giving
A tree cannot thrive unless its roots are healthy. The Jewish Housing Council cannot grow and prosper unless it is firmly rooted in financial resources. Donors to the Jewish Housing Council Foundation provide the funds that are necessary for the well being of the most vulnerable members of our community, our elderly.
The decision to give is a personal one, involving particular interest, goals and needs. Reasons for giving include the need to:
- Invest in the future of the Jewish Housing Council.
- Offset the rising costs of serving the elderly poor and disabled Jews in our community.
- Create a living legacy honoring donor or loved one.
- Benefit from significant tax and financial advantages.
- Protect assets from undue tax burden
Making a Gift
Gifts of any magnitude are gratefully accepted and donors can enjoy a wide range of opportunities to meet their areas of interest and philanthropic goals:
The meaning of a contribution may be enhanced by making it in memory of or in honor of a family member, friend or caregiver.
- Honor or Memory Tributes raise significant revenue for resident care programs. Tributes are listed in the resident newsletter, The Bulletin.
- Bricks and Stepping Stones can be a very permanent way to honor or memorialize a friend or loved one. These mosaic-tiled bricks are placed along the Honor Walk from Kobernick House to Anchin Pavilion for everyone to see. Stepping-stones are placed throughout the campus.
- The Remembrance Wall is the opportunity for families to memorialize residents who have passed away. Yizkor and Kaddish will be said on their behalf.
Gifts may be given outright or structured to maximize one's financial and estate plans.
- Bequests that are passed on to the JHCF through a last will and testament.
- Charitable Remainder Trust allows for the distribution of a specified income, at least annually, to one or more beneficiaries for life or for a specified term of years.
- Charitable Gift Annuity provides a lump sum to the beneficiary, usually linked to an appreciating property, with an agreed percentage returning to the benefactor.
- Endowment gifts ensure the future with responsible investments that will provide a revenue stream for years to come. Named endowment options are available.
- Life Insurance policy assignment, designating the JHCF as owner and/or beneficiary.
The Foundation can accept gifts of cash, life insurance and appreciated property (securities, real estate and, on a limited basis, tangible personal property).
- In-Kind Contributions of any personal property (vehicles, furniture, and office equipment) are accepted and may be utilized on campus or sold to raise funds.
- Stock Transfers are accepted for any of the above giving categories. Please contact the Development office within one week of transferring stock.
Donations may be made through one gift or a series of gifts pledged over time.
In addition to the satisfaction received from supporting the elderly in our community, donors to the Foundation are eligible for income tax deductions and other tax incentives that exist under federal and state laws.
Your gift to any one of these areas will support the Jewish community's commitment to those among us who have lived the longest.
Checks should be made payable to The Jewish Housing Council Foundation for any donations.
If you have any questions, please contact the Development Office at 377-0781.
